iPhone 14 Everything We Know About Apple's Upcoming
2022 iPhones.
In 2022, Apple will change iPhone sizes, and the 5.4-inch
iPhone mini will be phased out due to customer dissatisfaction. Following the
disappointing sales of the iPhone mini, Apple is expected to focus on bigger
iPhone sizes for its flagship handsets, with a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.1-inch
iPhone 14 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max on
the way. This year's iPhone 14 mini will not have a 5.4-inch display.
Since 2017, iPhones with Face ID have featured a notch on
the front to hold all of the essential electronics for face recognition, but
with the release of the iPhone 14, that will change. The notch is scheduled to
be removed from the iPhone 14 Pro models in 2022 in favor of a new design. For
a while, rumors were all over the place, but it appears like Apple will utilize
a mix of a circular hole-punch cutout for the camera and a pill-shaped cutout
for the Face ID components. Unfortunately, this functionality will only be
available on the iPhone 14 Pro versions; the more cheap iPhone 14 models will
continue to have a regular notch.
This year, we don't expect any major design changes,
although the camera bumps on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro might go larger,
with the Pro's hump rising in size the most. Apple is likely to provide more
color options, maybe including a purple option.
The iPhone 14 Pro variants might include a titanium frame
rather than a stainless steel chassis, as well as an updated speaker and
microphone grilles. Apple may also employ a new vapor chamber thermal
technology to keep the iPhone cooler in order to mitigate the effects of
quicker CPUs and 5G connections.
The camera on new iPhones is constantly improved, and the
iPhone 14 is no exception. The Ultra-Wide camera will be improved, and there's
a chance Apple could introduce a "periscope" zoom lens that allows
for even larger optical magnification, although it's unclear whether this will
happen in 2022 or 2023. The Pro iPhone models are rumored to include
48-megapixel cameras and 8K video recording capabilities, however, the ordinary
iPhone 14 models will not have these features.
According
to rumors, the iPhone 14 models will likely keep the A15 chip introduced in the
iPhone 13 series, while the iPhone 14 Pro variants will have an improved A16
chip. This would be the first time that Apple's Pro iPhone models acquire a
speedier processor, with the company likely doing so to save money and address
persistent supply difficulties.
Display with ProMotion
Early iPhone 14 speculations said that all four iPhone 14
models, due out in 2022, would feature ProMotion screens with refresh rates up
to 120Hz, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
Apple is expected to limit ProMotion technology to the
iPhone 14 Pro models, owing to a scarcity of available panels, according to
display analyst Ross Young. Young has stated that he expects 120Hz refresh
rates will remain a feature of the iPhone 14 Pro. Always-on display technology
is believed to be available exclusively on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
Website
in Korean Young's claims is supported by Elec's assertion that at least one of
the iPhone models arriving next year would have a normal LTPS OLED panel sans
120Hz ProMotion technology. Although analyst Jeff Pu claims that the function
would be available on all iPhone 14 models, he is not known for his accuracy.
Design of the Body
The iPhone 14 devices are believed to have the same
flat-edged appearance as the iPhone 13 variants. According to later reports and
component leaks, Jon Prosser predicted that Apple will offer a thicker chassis
with no back camera hump and circular volume controls, but his information
appears to be inaccurate.
In March, alleged renderings of the iPhone 14 models appeared, indicating that the regular iPhone 14 models will have no design changes and will look identical to the iPhone 13 variants. There will be a regular notch on the front, as well as the same camera bump and diagonal camera configuration on the rear.
Size Variations
In 2022, there will be no 5.4-inch iPhone since Apple is discontinuing the "small" series due to low sales. Apple is anticipated to focus on larger-sized iPhones in the future, with the iPhone 13 mini being the last of the tiny phones.
A
6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, and a
6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max are all expected, with the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro
Max replacing the small model.
Colors
According to an unconfirmed report, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will be available in purple. The speculation indicates that both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models will be available in purple color with a unique finish that varies tone depending on lighting conditions, however, this has yet to be confirmed.
Titanium
According to a JP Morgan Chase investor report, Apple's forthcoming iPhone 14 models would also include a high-end titanium alloy chassis design. Titanium had already been utilized by Apple in the Apple Watch, but this would be the first time the material has been used in an iPhone.
Titanium is more scratch-resistant than other metals.
Cooling
High-end iPhone models are expected to use a vapor chamber thermal system starting in 2022, which Apple is believed to be "aggressively testing." Because of their higher computational power and better 5G connection rates, high-end iPhones will require the VC thermal system. There are currently smartphones with vapor chamber cooling technology from Samsung, Razer, and LG, which are designed to keep a device cool while it is under a lot of stress.
It's
uncertain whether the vapor chamber thermal system will fulfill Apple's
stringent criteria, but the company is attempting to improve it, and high-end
models may soon incorporate it.
Port Lightning
There have been reports that Apple plans to ditch the Lightning connector in favor of a portless design with MagSafe charging, but it's unclear if such technology will debut with the 2022 iPhone models.
A
Lightning connector will be included on at least some of the next iPhones.
6E WiFi
According to Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 will have WiFi 6E connection. WiFi 6E, according to Kuo, will provide the high-speed wireless transmissions required for AR and VR experiences, and it will also be utilized in a mixed reality headgear that might be released in 2022.
WiFi 6E uses the 6GHz frequency in addition to the 2.4GHz
and 5GHz channels to enhance bandwidth and reduce interference while still
providing the speed gain and low latency that the WiFi 6 standard provides.
Face Recognition in
the Display
According to many speculations, Apple is working on a technique to hide the Face ID technology beneath the display in order to eliminate the notch. Apple was expected to implement under-display Face ID technology as early as 2022, however, display analyst Ross Young claims that components like the infrared camera would not be relocated until 2023 or 2024
