The best smartwatches for 2022: the best wearables available today

The best smartwatches available right now

The finest smartwatch is a little wrist-mounted companion to your smartphone as well as a handy health tool for counting steps and tracking workouts; depending on your needs, you may prioritize one or the other of these tasks.

There are so many smartwatches on the market that choosing the best one for you is difficult. That's even more true when you consider all of the other considerations: fitness features, specifications, design, smartphone compatibility, and pricing.

Fortunately for you, I have put most of the alternatives to the test, and I have compiled a list of the finest in this guide, sorted according to my own preferences.

You should also verify whether the smartwatch you're considering supports your phone — you can't use an Apple Watch if you have an Android phone, and while Wear OS watches are compatible with iPhone, they're not as good as Apple's own wearables.

Some Samsung watches provide exclusive functions available only to Samsung phone owners. If you're looking for a new phone, have a look at our list of the best smartphones.

Consider if the wearable includes GPS, an ECG, or other functions that are important to you. We've included a comprehensive specs list for each entry, as well as a summary from our review and the important good and negative elements, so you won't have to do much research to narrow down your options.

However, my preferences may differ from yours, it's worth looking into all of the possibilities below – or at the very least reading our evaluations so you know which ones to leave out.

If you're interested in learning more, click through to the entire evaluation of each smartwatch. Also, keep an eye out for new wearables as they become available.

Apple Watch 7

"Apple is methodically ironing away all the reasons not to buy one of its wearables."

However, given this isn't all that different from the Apple Watch 6, it's a flagship smartwatch that's in some ways more of the same. It has roughly the same chipset and few new capabilities, but the Apple Watch 7's new features are beneficial, particularly its larger screen, which is 20% larger but just a little larger on your wrist owing to lower bezels.

When dealing with the Apple Watch 7, the added size makes all the difference, and the wearable also charges faster than before. With those features added to the still-excellent Apple Watch 6, the Apple Watch 7 is indisputably a fantastic wearable and the greatest wristwatch on the market today - as long as you have an iPhone.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

With the return to Wear OS after using Tizen for recent models, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 generated a lot of buzzes. But this isn't your typical Wear OS – it's a brand-new version of the operating system developed in collaboration with Samsung and with a Tizen-like shell on top.

That means you get the best of both worlds, with Wear OS's functionality and applications combined with Tizen's appearance and feel.

Thanks to a lightweight build an innovative new body composition assessment capabilities, we noted the "excellent fitness features, great battery life, and a pleasant design" in our evaluation.

However, because some of its functions require a Samsung phone and there is no support for iPhone, I can't suggest the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 to everyone. If you already possess a recent Galaxy Watch, it's also debatable whether it's worth upgrading to.

Apple Watch SE

The Apple Watch SE is one of the greatest smartwatches money can buy right now, but only if you own an iPhone is it the correct pick for you.

The SE has high-end technology, a high-end design, and a wide range of capabilities that aren't currently available on any other smartwatch.

According to the tests, the Apple Watch SE's battery life isn't the greatest on the market, and there isn't an always-on display, but if you're looking for a terrific value-for-money wrist companion, the Apple Watch SE is the way to go.

Fitbit sense

With advanced health and fitness capabilities including an ECG, stress monitoring, heart rate zones, and skin temperature measures, the Fitbit Sense is both attractive and remarkable. The Sense is "a fashionable smartwatch to help you cope with the stress of modern life," as we noted in our review.

It has an intriguing feature set and comes with all the essentials you'd expect from a fitness-focused wristwatch, such as monitored workouts, GPS, a voice assistant (Alexa or Google Assistant), and meditation capabilities.

The Fitbit Sense has a stainless-steel frame and a crisp screen, and it feels like the whole deal, except that some of its features are locked behind the Fitbit Premium barrier.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is still one of the best smartwatches available for Android users, and it also works with iPhones.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 has a rotating bezel that makes navigating the wristwatch a breeze. We found this to be far more convenient than tapping and swiping the display, which is required on many of the other top smartwatches on our list.

The watch's app selection is restricted compared to Wear OS and watchOS, two competitor smartwatch operating systems, but it still provides the essentials, and Samsung has created a watch that is fantastic for fitness as well as having a stunning design and a lot more functionality.

If you're using this with an iPhone, the features are more limited, but it's still compatible. However, if you're looking for a new phone, an Apple Watch is a good option.

While the Galaxy Watch 4 has now replaced it, the Watch 3 remains a good product, as we stated in our review: "it's one of the finest smartwatch experiences on the market, with a stunning design and top-end technology."

Fitbit Versa 3

Don't care for anything from Samsung or Apple? The Fitbit Versa 3 smartwatch may be the finest wrist companion for you since it is one of the top wrist companions for individuals who wish to focus on fitness aspects.

There's built-in GPS, we found it to be comfortable to wear, and the display is clear and easy to read. This, like previous Fitbit smartwatches, is primarily designed for exercise and will not appeal to everyone.

The Fitbit Versa 3 is a great wearable, but it's more of a fitness tracker than a smartwatch, and it only has a few productivity applications."

The Fitbit Versa 3 is a wonderful option for general wearable lovers, and it's also cheaper than some of the other alternatives on this list.
